How is a regular exercise bike different than a spinning bike? The buzz lately is that you can burn about 500 calories, tone up and lose weight quickly by exercising for only 30 minutes on a spinning bike. I have a regular exercise bike and cannot afford a spinning bike or classes. Would I be able to achieve the same results by exercising for 30 minutes a day on my exercise bike? Please explain to me the difference between the two bikes and how they work differently to give different results?

How can I fix my Gold's Gym Power Spin 210u exercise bike? Our Power Spin bike with the "virtually silent" magnetic resistance system has suddenly started to make really loud knocking sounds when we ride it. The sound comes and goes but is so loud that others in the room can't hear the tv when someone rides the bike. Anyone know what the problem could be?

are expensive in home exercise bikes worth it? I want a buy an exercise bike, looked at walmart.com and sportsauthority. but want a good quality bike with a comfortable seat. There are the upright ones which range from 100-300 (for most) and then the spinning quality bikes - around $400+. I just don't know if it is worth it spending that kind of money? I dont' want it to break right away. and reading reviews online doesn't seem to help as there are a good deal of people that like the bikes and a certain few that never do, any suggestions?
Exercise bikes? Is there a big difference between an "upright bike" and an "indoor cycling bike?" I am wanting to purchase a bike for spinning. Thanks in advance! I know outdoor bikes are ideal, but I live in a rainy rainy place, and I'm a wuss about cold weather! :-)
Where can I find free spinning workout videos? I have just got an exercise bike free from a friend and would like to do a spinning class at home. I already use exercise TV for free workouts but I cant find a spinning one anywhere. I know I could just make up a workout myself but I prefer to have an instructor on screen so I don't just give up :P Any ideas?
difference between a spin bike and a regualr bike with a stand, exercise question too.? ok i have been going to the gym trying to find a cardio exercise that i could stick with to get rid of the love handles and the unusually large ass for a white guy. i am not fat just want to lose some weight and tone up. i have started a healthy eating regiment. so all that is covered so no need to respond with that. i tried the spinning bike the other day at the gym and the day after i was so sore. i aonly road ot for 15 mintues and it worked me better then the stationary bike with all the electornic crap on it. i live in houston so i do not want to bike ride. when i move to charlotte it will be up for consideration but not now. i read someone saying that you could buy a regular bike with a trainer stand and it would be better then buying a spinning bike. when i googles spinning bikes i was thrown by the price. so whats the deal. whats the difference. i know the spinning bike gives you the resistance. and what does the spinning bike really work on your body? i dont mind spending the money for the spin bike but now it has me curious about going to the other route as well. just looking for some options. i think though the way it makes me feel, either way i am hooked. plus i think it will help me tone down and get rid of my booty!
Are spin bikes quiet? We're in an apartment, and I wanted to buy a spin bike. Do you think it will make a lot of noise, or vibrate down to the lower floor? We tried using a device that clips onto a regular bike to make it an exercise bike, but it made too much noise...I had to take it back... thanks....
Pedaling backwards on a spin bike? Does pedaling backwards on a spin bike exercise different muscles on the legs than spining forwards? A black hole created by a spin bike? How does that work? If you have ever ridden on a spin bike before, it's not like a normal bike or a normal stationary bike. The flywheel make resistance both backwards and forwards.
Spinning - what exactly is it? I know it's something to do with exercise bikes, but that doesn't really tell me what it is you actually do in a spinning class. I mean, if it's just a case of pedalling an exercise bike for an hour then there'd be no need to have classes?
Converting movement into electricity? Need help, please? (I asked this question earlier, but I would like as many answers as possible) There is a gym on the first floor of my apartment building, and I often marvel at all the MOVEMENT, especially the spinning. (Exercise bikes) Will it be practical and economical to try to convert all this 'wasted' energy into power in order to at least provide electricity for the building? It seems such a waste of calories not harnessing all this sweat. Question: How much power does one 'gym machine' (bike) generate going at say 20 k/h in a period of 30 minutes? Help appreciated. There are about 250 spinning machines in this building, and in early morning and at night ALL of them are going at breakneck speed.
How can I lose 3-4lbs per week? (Diet and/or exercise tips greatly appreciated)? Trying to lose weight for health reasons; I don't use pills or fad diets, just regular diet & exercise and I'm trying to gear my diet toward a higher protein, moderate carb, low fat style. Also would like to know which cardio exercises are the best at weight loss (I currently work on ellipticals, treadmill and stationary bike-not spinning). Goal weight: 163lbs. Currently: ~200lbs. Gold's Gym Power Spin 200 Upright Exercise Bike? Every time I turn the speed up to like 7-10 somewhere my bike makes noises and the chain or whatever thats inside it keeps on switching and stuff. Please someone tell me whats going on and how I can fix it. I really need it for my workout. thanks
Can I do spinning even if I dont know how to ride a bike? I am 28 and I am ashamed to admit I never learned how to ride a bike.My dad thought they were too expensive while I was growing up, so he never bought me one.When I became independent,there were other things more important that buying a bike, so I never got one. I've exercised on stationary bikes before,but never on a regular moving one. I just joined the gym yesterday and I was thinking in taking some spinning classes.The spinning bikes look a lot different than the regular stationary bikes, but they are still attached to the ground.How hard can it be? Do Exercise Monitoring Watches/Bands Work on Stationary Machines? Specifically, I was looking at the Nike SportBand. Would it give an accurate reading if I did the treadmill, elliptical or spinning bike at my gym? Would it be best to just get a heart rate monitor? uncomfortable exercise bike seat? I recently bought an upright exercise bike from Walmart (Gold's gym power spin 210). It is incredibly uncomfortable and I would like to know if there is a way of replacing the seat with another one, kind of like a universal exercise seat that will fit on my bike? Thanks!
How much exercise is too much exercise? For the last week or so I've been reall bored since all of m friends are away. So I've been doing multiple activities a day, like: spinning sessions four times a week, biking 1-2 miles every day, swimming 40 laps in my pool, walking around my neighborhood, etc. My older sister told me that I shouldn't be doing so much exercise or my legs will get really muscly. Is this true? i'm a fourteen-year-old thin girl, thats whats wrong with muscly legs.

Am I overspending on gym equipment? Ok, here's the deal: I love gym equipment. I use everything that I own. I currently have a weight machine, spin bike, exercise mat, exercise ball, treadmill, and free weights from 5 - 50 pounds. I love this equipment like a man loves a new car. I am buying more ! I am interested in a dip tower and incline / decline bench for use with free weights. I have spent about $1,300 for all of the items except the bench and dip station, which I would still like to buy. My question: Is this $$ a typical amount for a nice home gym? Am I "gym crazy," or is this interest normal?Do I have way too much stuff already? I need some outside perspective. A couple of people laugh when they find out how much gym equipment that I have (and use!), and I could sell it back used if I ever stop using the machines. What do you think? The treadmill is a Precor in perfect condition and the woman gave it away because she didn't want it taking up her back room! :) I just paid for hauling it to my house. Exercise Question. I'll give best answer!? I'm going to the gym in a little bit to work-out and I was wondering because I have some extra fat on my thighs and butt and I was wondering what would be the best thing to try and make those areas firmer and less big. I know cardio is a great thing for that but what kind of cardio? Because theres so many things like the stairsteppers, treadmill, eliptical, spin bikes, the bikes where you sit low on the ground and petal, and a lot more. What is the best thing? And if you could, give me some good websites or exercises to target my fat areas to try and get rid of the fat. I also have some extra fat on my arms but it's starting to go away. If you know of anything that works well sufficiently fast, let me know because I want to have a great body as fast as possible. And preferrably before it's beach weather. Thank You!!!
fractured my big toe... but want to still exercise? Hi, I fractured my big toe while moving out my old elliptical machine in anticipation of getting a new treadmill delivered the next day. The elliptical machine had a broken leg and that leg fell hard on my toe. So now my treadmill still stands brand spankin' new after 5 days of having it. It will take 3-4 weeks for the fracture to heal but I am pretty sure it will be even longer before I can work out with good intensity. Does anyone have other ideas on other ways I can get a cardio workout without it affecting my big toe? Whether or not there are other cardio exercises, is it still a good idea to do weights? Will doing weights without any cardio cause any bulkiness? Just in case someone is thinking of this, I cannot do stationary bikes or spin bikes... it will put some pressure on that toe and also require that I bend it, which I have to avoid.
Is it possible to get a flat tummy in 2 weeks? Okay im a girl, htirtene in july ( i mixed up my age so i wont get baned ) im 60kg, and my height is 153cm. I'm a vegetarian on monday - friday, so I only eat on saturdays and sundays. i go to the gym on tuesdays and to circuit (spin bikes, and exercise machines) i do swimming on sundays and i go out a lot. I have a little bulge and my thighs are a bit fat. I've finally got myself into a pattern of exercising, after not having done any for so long, but I'm worried that the exercise will cause me to gain muscle and make the numbers on the scales go up. Is that what will happen? I weigh approx. 65kgs (143lbs) and am worried that my weight will go up because I am exercising for one hour every day doing cardio eg. spin bike, step-ups etc. When will I start to lose weight? I'm trying to lose weight. Will this exercise plan work? I am 13 and my mom and I are doing weight watchers. I am overweight (I weigh 170 pounds.) and I'm 5'6. I need to lose fat and not build muscle. My target areas are my stomach, thighs, arms, and chin. How much cardio should I do a day to lose weight? So I'm trying to lose weight. I started eating healthy and exercising. important! How good is my exercise+nutrition regimen? Im a male, 6ft3inches, large body frame, 212 lbs, probably around 25% body fat Nutrition~ i eat around 1800 calories a day ( lots of fiber and protein ) whenever i snack i eat soybeans, raw peanuts, cereal, fruits. I drink a combination of green tea and water, about 100 oz a day I take a multivitamins, fish oil, vitamin C 1000 in the morning. Workouts~ 25 minutes High intensity interval training (all on spinning bike) normally 6 sprints of 15 seconds through 15 minutes. this is after warming up 5 minutes and 5 minutes cool down after sprints 3x a week (every other day) Between cardio I do weight lifting mainly core and upper body lifts 2x a week -about me- i weighed 230 in fall 2008 and i dropped 15 pounds just by doing low intensity cardio and restricting my calories. since then ive been weighing anywhere from 210-214.. and ive been doing the diet and fitness listed above. Plateau? how can i fix it?

Will the notoriously physically inactive feminists oppose to this awesome new "green" law? A legislature is being introduced in a certain country where the citizens will have an option of providing the electricity for their own home by using an exercise bike/treadmill that is also a generator of electricity. The more you spin the more electricity you can use for free. Its good for the body and for the environment, but would this law get the American feminists off the donuts and onto the treadmill?

Then after my spin bike i do 70 crunches i feel the burn good. Btw i dont stop on spin bike nor crunches. except at 35 for crunches. I do 8 pound weights 60 times total. I am doing this 5 days a week burning 320 calories on the bike.. Is this a good routine to get good abs? PLZ HELP ME IF IT ISNT!! :(

Does starting a 3 hour exercise is good? Hi, I'm a person that doesn't do any kind of excercise. For this year I'm thinking about signing up for classes like spin biking and kick boxing, that'll sum it up to 3 hours per day in a two days per week. I will distribute the classes for one in the morning and other for the afternoon (I have the same day both of the classes) so I'll have some kind of rest. It doesn't sound bad, but my question is, would it not be healthy for a "beginner" to start a routine like that? Is it enough? Ps My goal is to grow some butt.
Is it ok to exercise when suffering from acid reflux/GERD? I have been battling acid reflux/GERD for about 3 weeks. I constantly have acid splashing up into esophagus, and it feels like a burning inferno all the time. My dad is always bugging me, saying I should go out and exercise, but ever since I've had this acid reflux, moving around has been extremely painful. I tried swimming in my pool two weeks ago, and I felt the acid splash right up. The next week, I went to the gym for about 20 minutes, and all I could manage to do was walk on a tread mill for 10 minutes at a speed of 1.0 and do a couple of easy machines on the lightest settings. About an hour and a half ago, my dad said I had to take a mile walk or I couldn't watch my favorite tv show. About half way thru, my sides were sore, and the acid was washing up and down like crazy. Now, my dad said that tomorrow I have to attend a spinning class (stationary bike) at my gym tomorrow night for an hour. My dad has had acid reflux before and he said moving around didn't bother him, but it does bother me. I guess everyone's different. I would like to know, is it safe to be doing vigorous exercise like this (walking a mile, taking a class for an hour,stuff like that) I'm so afraid my dad will ground me for not exercising (he even said to me "If you don't go to that spinning class, you'll never see the light of day with your tv.) :( What should I do? *I went to the ER a week ago because it had gotten so bad. The dr gave me prescription Maalox, a med to soak up the acid, and an abdominal pain med, and I'm also taking aloe juice. * I'm within normal weight range * I don't drink or smoke

Is there anything I can do to ease my thigh musles from a spin class? I took my first spinning class today and my thigh muscles are killing me! I'm not fit, I don't do exercise and after I got off the bike I almost collapsed on the floor. My legs still feel like they are going to collapse. Is there anything I can do or take to feel better. Please help. Ps. Is there any shoes I should use cause my Jordan's aren't cutting it.
Exercise with physical limitations....personal trainer? I have a large amount of weight to lose (at least 75 lbs). I have lost it before....I know how to do that. My problem is some new physical limitations I have never had before. In the past I have always exercised alot to lose and maintain weight (jazzercise, spin, jog). I injured myself that last time I last wieght and now I have some back problems with a pinched nerve that makes most activity diffiuclt. I have tried walking and my leg goes numb after about about 1/2 mile. Jazzercise is not an option either. At this point I am just too big to start with spin....the bike is not comfortable. What have others done when there are limitations? Are personal trainers willing to work with someone like me or are they only good with someone with full ability? I can lift weights...is there any benefit to just doing that for awhile?
Should i go Spinning today? On Monday i started going to spinning classes, it's been ages (5years?)since i´ve done any kind of exercise, so after an hour riding on a bike i was about to meltdown, yesterday my legs were still very tired and today they hurt a lot,( lol )i´m having trouble going up or down the stairs. Today i have another class, is it advisable to go, or should i rest a bit more and go on friday? aditional info: I stoped smoking 1 week ago (Hurray!). Exercise with bad ankle? I sprained my ankle about a month ago. It was a terrible sprain. I'm in Physical therapy now. I have gained about 6 pounds nursing this ankle (and eating while I did it). I want to get back into some exercise. The physical therapist says to do the stationary bike. I find that so boring. What else can I do with this ankle that will give me some cardio. I'm used to going "hard" with my cardio (spin classes, running). This is so frustrating. Any suggestions?
Will this work for weight (fat) loss? I am following diet of about 1500 calories a day with about 60% of intake being protein rich foods, 35% being complex carbohydrates and the rest being fruits and vegetables. I don't drink juice or soda just water and a minimum of 3 cups of decaffeinated green tea a day (with no additives). My workout schedule will be as follows: Every morning I will do a light aerobic exercise before breakfast (except Sundays) Mondays: Burn 300 calories at the gym (treadmill, cross ramp, bike) Tuesdays: Spinning class for an hour Wednesdays: Muscle building (upper body and abs), Light aerobics at home Thursdays: Muscle building (lower body) Light aerobics at home Fridays: Burn 300 calories at the gym (treadmill, cross ramp, bike) Saturdays: Spinning Sunday: No exercise just yoga and stretching Of course I will stretch before and after every exercise. How long will it take to lose 25 pounds. I am currently 140 pounds.

How can I tell whether I have a sleeping disorder? I'm only 19, and I'm tired all the time. In the mornings I work at an office and I work at a restaurant twice a week, right after I finish my work at the office. Since I've started my work at the office, I stopped exercising because I'm too tired. The only exercise I manage to do is riding my bike to work, which is 45 minutes for each direction, and maybe going to a spinning or martial art class once a week in the gym. When I'm at work I manage to stay alert, but once I get home all I do is sleep. I don’t know if it's psychological or not, it might be depression, because if I'm meeting with friends or have something planned to do, that I enjoy, I mange to do it and don’t feel tired while at it. But, if it's something that I need to do for myself, like reading, chores, or exercise, I will sleep instead of doing it. On weekends I can sleep for nearly 48 hours straight. It doesn’t matter what time it is, I always feel an urge to sleep. I get frustrated that I sleep excessively and don’t manage to do other activities. How do I know what my problem is and how do I fix it?
Electric car question? Ok why can't they make some sort of generator that charges the batteries of an electric car while the wheels spin? I have seen a simple generator made from a stationary exercise bike that easily powered multiple light bulbs, now think of the RPMs of the tires of a moving vehicle. Wouldnt you think they could easily make some sort of generator that would be run from the 2 wheels that just roll not the drive wheels? I think they would sell alot more electric cars, I would buy one if I didnt have to charge it after about 250 miles, I could actually drive it on long trips and save alot of money.

Women and Cycling? Toning the butt? I am buying an exercise bike this week and i would like to know how i can improve my riding to target my butt more specifically. Do i push the petals with the tip of my foot or not? As well, what is the best way to tone it? I am pretty skinny but my butt isn't tone so what would be the best? body building questions? Hey there, Okay at the moment im fairly muscly and have a 6 pack which i want to make more defined. I lost heaps of weight so i have alot of skin over my abs. How can i tighten my stomach and also becuase to loose weight i did alot of spin work. Like on a bike. my bum still has alot of fat there. thats where i store most of my % of body fat. What is the best exercise whether it be weights or Cardio?

help with soccer? getting better...? hi, ive been playing club soccer for two years and after playing numerous sports for the last 7 years ive finally found my thing. im really good, fit, fast runner and have pretty good ball skills. not long ago my team vsed this other team who were coming 1st in the comp, and i saw this girl i used to do athletics with since i was six until i was 11. i asked her how long she had been playing soccer for and she said since she was six. and it showed in her game, perfect kicks, speed, good crosses and aweosme corner kicks with great spin. since i was about 9 i played soccer with the boys at primary school but apart from that like i said ive only played soccer for two years. i was wondering if anyone knew if/how i could catch up with people like her, eg better speed and better spin on the ball and stuff. (i practice every afternoon and 4 out of 7 days in a week i go for a 5 km bike ride. i eat healthyly and exercise alot.) any one have any ideas? it would really help. thanks
How do you ride a 21 speed bicycle? I haven't ridden a bike in years. I had a one speed as a kid. I'm 28 now and out of shape, but starting to watch what I eat, and just picked up a Schwinn Avenue bicycle for a little more exercise. My job is almost exactly 3 miles up the road where I would like to eventually ride to and from during the week, and joyride on the weekends. My question is how do I use the 21 speeds effectively? I can't figure them out. I can go from 1-3 on the left handlebar, and from 1-7 on the right, but I can't figure out when to switch, and after riding around some today up and down the road and some hills today, I can't get the hang of it... I just left the left side at 1 and the right side at 7 which was the only one that seemed to work for me. any lower than 7 and the pedals started spinning for minutes and then clicked in. Any higher on the left, and the bike was too hard to pedal. All I know about bicycles is how to balance and pedal... Help!
how long does it take to go back to the gym after having a csection? Can you bike? Can you lift weights? Hi im probably going to have a c-section this time b/c i carry the HSV. im dreading it b/c im an active person and i know its major surgery and takes a while before you heal . I want to know from women with past c-sections how long it took them when they started being active again whether it was a the gym or some kind of sport they love to play. I love to cycle outdoor and i also do alot of indoor spinning. Im hoping i can cycle indoors at least after two weeks. They usually say to wait 6 weeks but for my first, i wnet back ot the gym after two weeks, I was sore but i took things really slow and didnt do any abdominal exercises for a while. But i was able to do walking and other low impact exercises. I had vaginal birth back then. Please be honest with your answers and also let me know if its safe to do biking since its just sitting upright. Thanks
What can I do to prevent cellulite? First of all, it is not in my genes. My mom has no visible cellulite, the only time you can see some is if she squishes some thigh together, and even then it's hardly visible. For now, I'm the same, but I think it's becoming a bit more noticeable and i want it to go away :) I do a lot of exercise. I swim twice a week. I'm on the soccer team. I use a spinning bike for about 30-45 minutes about twice a week. I don't do any strength exercises. I'm 14, so I didn't really think it was necessary. Should I start doing lunges and what not? Also, as for my diet, I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at around 7. I do snack a lot, but it's usually mostly things like grapes, mangoes, other fruits, or something like a special K bar. I do eat some sort of baked good or dessert about 3 times a week. My sister's a chef, it's kind of hard not too :P What do you think?
How can I loose weight? Right now, I'm at my peack point in my weight. I've been feeling myself getting heavier for weeks and it's time to start loosing some of that extra fat. I'm 5'5 and weigh 125 pounds. I know that sounds like a normal weigh, but I have small bones and it does NOT look good on me. Besides, I'm 14 and a dancer, so I have a lot of pressure on myself to stay thin. What can I do for exercise? I usually swim two days a week for 45 min. nd I have soccer practice one day a week for an hour. What else can I do? Other than a swimming pool, I also have a spinning bike and a walking machine thingy. For my eating habits, I can say right away that I snack way too much. When I see food, I eat. How can I control these urges? What else can I do too change my diet? Thanks!
please help fast!!! dizzy...please help!? yesterday i went bike riding. i went over 7 miles. my body was soooo sore by night time. and last night i went to sleep and woke up around 4am. i was in bed by 1:00ish. and in my dream someone said "this is what it felt like...the room was spinning"...and i woke up really dizzy! it was like i was watching cars go by real fast. so i snapped out of it. sat up. i was exhausted obviously so i went back to bed. then woke up about 4 hours later dizzy again. but not as bad. then i was like screw it im staying up. i sat up and fell asleep but this time didn't get dizzy. then i got sleepy and layed down for a half a second then got dizzy again. it seems like when i lay down im dizzy. also my head feels weird. like i was exercising it too. literally my entire body hurts and feels like well i rode over 7 miles on the bike lol. my ears hurt a couple times but its not constant. like my whole head feels weird. IS THIS NORMAL OR WHAT COULD THIS BE?! i feel tired in the eyes too. also note i havnt rode a bike in years and havnt exercised in a long time. i've been so depressed and all that so i've been not exercising. idk if that has to do with anything. but please help me. i don't feel light headed either. i just feel something like it i guess is the way to explain it

Exercising.? Hi have started going to the gym 5 times a week, i do body attack, body pump, lbt, and spin? aswell as these i incorporate some weights, sit ups, tradmill, bike, powerplate (i dont do it very day....... prob alternate them.)) that was done for me by someone in the gym, i love it and feel good but was wondering is this a good regime for loosing weight? and how long till i start to see some results?? Converting movement into electricity? Need help, please? I have a gym on the first floor of my apartment building, and I often marvel at all the MOVEMENT, especially the spinning, (Exercise bikes) Will it be practical and economical to try to convert all this 'wasted' energy into power in order to at least provide electricity for the building? It seems such a waste of calories not harnessing all this sweat. Question: How much power does one 'gym machine' (bike) generate going at say 20 k/h in a period of 30 minutes? Help appreciated. There are about 250 spinning machines in this building, and at night ALL of them are going at breakneck speed.

Belly fat?? I have a good body, i'm 5'4 and weight 113 pounds, but I have a "beer belly." I'm fourteen, and I dont drink beer. I don't drink soda either. I also do some exercise to stay fit, like spinning sessions, swimming laps, biking, etc. WHat should I do?
