Can you typically get a fitness assessment/personal training at a gym without a membership? I'd love to have a fitness assessment, and I have all the equipment at work (for free) but I'm not sure how to use it properly, like how many reps and how much weight and how to use free weights. Could I go to a gym like goodlife or premier (both canadian) and just get like a fitness assessment and a few sessions with a trainer without getting a full membership since I don't need it, just the training? Or do most places require membership?
When personal/fitness training as a career, what program (ACE. NFPT, AFAA etc) stands out among the rest? Personal Trainer Certification I’ve decided to pursue personal/fitness training as a career, and I am in the process of choosing a certification program. I’ve done a bit of research and found several articles on the subject, but I’m still not sure which certification is right for me. I’d like some help sorting through my options. The ideal answer will weigh the pros and cons of the programs I’ve listed below, and possibly include the programs I’ve left out (such as Cooper or NFPT).

Personal Fitness Training school in SOCAL.? I have been into fitness for the past 16 years now and am looking to help others achieve goals of living a healthier lifestyle. My motivation is the death of my father this past year who past away of a heart attack. I liketo be able to make a difference in someones life so that they could see that there is a better life out there. Is it hard/easy to hit personal training target at mega gyms like Planet Fitness, Ftiness First, True Yoga etc I always felt curious whether it is safe to pursue a fitness career in big mega fitness centres. However i always heard of rumours that if you can't hit personal training sales target, you will be out... I have only work in small fitness clubs, and i have the necessary certification in fitness instructing and personal training. Perhaps, can someone here also share with me the success factor of working as a personal trainer in big mega gyms.....?
Are there any personal training/fitness specialist careers that aren't commission based? I have a bachelor's in kinesiology and 2 certifications. However, I'm 21, new, and with only volunteer/assisting experience in fitness. I'm heavily dissapointed that it seems everything is about "marketing/saling yourself." My degree is in kinesiology, not marketing or business. I'm not good at telling exagerations or annoying people until they buy training from me. Are there any clubs that are not commission based? Any other facilities? And can someone tell me if "Corporate Ftiness" operates the same way or differently? If not...do I really have a shot at "saling myself." Or just tell me where I should work...as long as it's not a complete desk job, I'm interested.
Planning to cancel LA Fitness personal training contract...where do I start? Ok..so I heard it's a hassle to cancel the contract so I want to be prepared. My boyfriend got suckered in to signing a contract a little over 2 wks ago and hasn't been to one training session yet. Should I start by calling the gym or corporate offices? Does anyone have the number? The sales rep "forgot" to give us page 2 of the contract which explains our cancellation rights. Are there any fees? I'm already prepared to complain to the BBB if it's too much of a hassle....lol. We only want to cancel the personal training. We plan on keeping the regular membership. Any advice is appreciated :)
How do I cancel my LA Fitness personal training membership? I tried cancelling my account since May, but every time they dont cancel my membership, and they always tell me a different way to cancel my account from mailing in a request, to cancel my membership in the internet and calling in and then they tell me it takes months to cancel. Then they told me that I had to cancel my gym membership as well if I wanted to cancel my personal training(I didnt want to cancel my gym membership). So I did about 3 months ago and I am still being charged for personal training but not gym membership. Im thinking this is a horrible scam that is bankrupting me, can someone help, and can I get some money back?
do personal fitness trainers make good money? i want to go to school and get my certificate for personal fitness training but its going to cost me 14000 for nine months of vocational school, i am gonna keep going to college after that but will i make good money doing this?
Do most fitness clubs charge for personal training? or is that included in the membership? I was with another fitness club before before I moved but only went to run on the tread mill or do some weights. I live in Southern California now so if anyone could suggest somewhere where I can sign up? Im on a low budget though. I need someone who knows more about health then me. Im a fit guy but just want to build a little more muscle. I usually go running but I want to do more than that.
Personal Fitness and Restraint Training? I'm choosing classing for my sophmore year in High School, and I will have a quarter(1/4) of a year free that I will probably have a Study Hall in. There is a class though, Personal Fitness and Restraint Training, that I could fit in. The problem is, I'm not a very "fit" active person. I don't go to the gym and I don't do school sports. I'm not weak or lazy, but I'm worried that if I take this class, I will be left out in a crowd of mega sports people. It is meant to "assess current fitness levels and make goals for self improvement though" Has anyone ever taken a course like this, and is it fun? Should it be something to go for? Don't say "go with what you want to do" because well, I'm asking for your opinion.
personal training at planet fitness...cost? how much would one on one personal training at planet fitness cost per session.. i was thinking around an hour or two long sessions about 5 or 6 days a week.. does anyone know?
How do I cancel my La Fitness Pro Results Body of Change personal training contract? To cancel your La Fitness Pro Results personal training simply write a letter to the Better Business Bureau, and wait. Having an attorney send a letter to their corporate office also helps. These are almost always guaranteed to work if your problems are legitimately concerning (and referencing) trainer no shows, being switched trainers numerous time, harassment, stolen sessions, or misrepresentation at the point of sale (the time of signing up), such as being told you can cancel your contract at any time with no penalty or not being told effectively and directly that your contract will automatically convert to a month to month program upon completion, both of which I'll discuss next. Very often La Fitness Pro Results sales reps will mislead you by telling you that you may cancel your personal training contract at any time with no penalty, which is completely false, (in some states) such cancellation usually requires a buy-out fee/penalty of 50% of the remaining balance and can total many hundreds of dollars. Some are in excess of a thousand. Also La Fitness Pro Results sales reps will mislead you about your contract automatically renewing. One of their 'gimmicks' in this regard is to use 'fast talk' and refer to this as your "Rate for Life Guarantee", when in effect all of their personal training contracts are set to automatically renew after their initial term (month to month). In April 2008 (or approximate to that time) La Fitness mysteriously cancelled numerous contracts (and stopped billing) those which had entered automatic renewal, in which members checking and credit cards accounts were being billed for MANY months after their initial term, some for over a year, with payments ranging $100-$400 monthly. These contracts (payments/drafts) were mysteriously cancelled yet to my knowledge none of the funds were ever returned to the clients. This was done company wide, and was not mentioned to upper management or club management. This was a onetime thing. They did not cancel all auto-new contracts. It appears they only cancelled those who had been in auto renew for quite some time, as they let many in auto-renew at that time continue, and they still continue to automatically renew contracts on a daily basis. It may also be possible they've decided to let all contracts auto-renew, yet set a pre-determined amount of time they would allow such contracts to continue to be billed (for example an additional 12 months), then cancel future drafts at such a pre-set time. It was suggested to the owners of the company and their corporate brass to provide a list of ALL clients not using their personal training. This was suggested as a way of increasing customer service. This was rejected. Why? They feared that if 'non using clients' (but who were still being billed/drafted) were contacted, they would immediately become aware they were still being drafted for a contract they thought was completed and not using, resulting in people contacting their banks in order to stop electronic billing, and this could cost the company millions! As a result, the only list provide to the club is a much shorter (safe) list of members whose accounts were active recently, but who have not used their personal training in the past 30 days. Anyone outside of that time frame is not put on that list due to the reasons I just explained. I've been told directly by the owner and "La Fitness Top Brass" their fear is having an attorney/attorney general shut down their ability to auto-renew contracts which would cost the company millions of dollars yearly. Also their clients have had thousands upon thousands of sessions stolen by trainers, resulting in trainers fraudulently getting paid at the loss of sessions to the clients, very often with neither the client nor La Fitness even being made aware, and sessions never being restored. La Fitness is aware of the loopholes which allow their clients sessions to be stolen, but have done little to correct the problem due to cost and inconvenience. Such solutions could include a finger print system, or a signature verification system, or simply locking down accounts which are not being used. Also all La Fitness gym members need to be made aware that their billing information (while safely hidden) has the potential to used by the personal training department to bill ongoing services for personal training without the main members knowledge/authorized signature. This has also happened numerous times, to unwitting spouses and often by underage children, using their parents accounts even with the sales reps knowledge the child is underage and doesn’t have their parents approval. Sales reps have also fraudulently and intentionally charged accounts of members for personal training services without the members’ knowledge. If you have had problems in these areas above, you may choose to contact an attorney, the Better Business Bureau and your State Attorney Gener
Irecently purchased a 1 year membership to my local Spectrum Fitness and personal training. Is this worth it? I recently purchased a 1 year membership to my local Spectrum for $ 647.00, and I paid for it up front by paying cash. It allows me access to any Spectrum in my area and surrounding areas. Was that worth it? I also will be hiring one of the personal trainers at the premier center and he charges $ 350.00 for 10 sessions so $ 35.00 per session, and thats 5 weeks worth of training with me renenwing it if I want to at the climax. Combined with me doing cardio and with me using him will I lose the weight and tone up? Also even once I lose the weight and get into shape will he help me maintain it?
I want to cancel a personal training contract with Premier Fitness and they say I can't? I signed up for 40 personal training sessions at Premier Fitness. I've used up 19 of them, and the trainer I was going to has cut back his hours, and last week he just dumped me off onto a new trainer at the gym without warning, or discussing it with me first. He wasn't able to schedule me adequately any more (he was cancelling at the last minute, etc.). He didn't inform me he was switching me to someone else until the day of, and he told me he would be there at my session, as well. When I got there, he wasn't there, just this new guy was. The bottom line is, I don't want to do training sessions with someone else, and I don't like the way this was handled, and I want to cancel my contract for the training sessions, but the manager says I can't. Is there anything I can do? The only reason I signed up for so many sessions was because this trainer outlined a plan to help me lose weight, and this was the number of sessions he calculated I would need. It sounded great at the time, but now that it's someone else I'm going to have to work with, I don't want to do it any more.

Studying Fitness or Training in Australia? I was just wondering where I could find information about fitness related courses in Australia. More training or personal training type courses I'm after. I've already looked at the Australian Institute of Fitness website, but was wondering if there were any other sites or places I could browse around for info on other similar courses? Thanks
Possibly looking into becoming a fitness instructor/personal trainer and have some questions!? Professional instructors and trainers are great but all answers are greatly appreciated. I am looking into possibly a career choice of fitness instruction or personal training. I have no experience and recently joined a gym. I live in CT. I was wondering if there are schools or classes you take before you go for certification and perhaps where I should look to go within my area? Any advice to get me started on where to go to learn and work my way up from there is helpful and appreciated. Thank you!
What's the best gym to go to for personal training? Cause I need to get fit, let myself go over the summer, gained 12 pounds, and I'm about to get a membership at family fitness or 24 hours fitness, But which one has the best 1 on 1 personal training? Oh and also, I eat extremely healthy, It was mostly because of holidays and such, and I wasnt working out, But I think gyms help, Because you have others there you are competing with, and a PT (Personal Trainer) Also encourages you and give you tips, (Something football conditioning cant.)
I will start boot-camp style personal training for work at a cadet camp--What should I expect? I'm a little nervous here. I will start a tough endurance/fitness training routine with a personal trainer hired by a cadet camp this month. I hope to start working at the camp during the summer. Trainees aren't given much information on what to expect at the training sessions, but I know that it is going to be boot camp-style. I will meet the trainer for the first time next week, but I was wondering if it's appropriate to call him by his first name, or should I automatically refer to him as Sir? He is a couple of years younger than me, so it's a little awkward. Also, I have been sent an e-mail with a date and time by the trainer for an interview and assessment/evaluation session. I've heard rumors that other trainers associated with the same camp will start with a weigh-in and then really test the trainee's limits with push-ups, sit-ups, crunches, etc. The guidelines say that I should be neatly dressed for the interview with the trainer, but was given no instructions on whether to bring a set of gym clothes to change into for the weigh-in and evaluation. According to the same rumors, other trainers will get the trainee to undress to his underwear and socks for the weigh-in, and will have him start with push-ups, crunches and sit-ups immediately afterwards, not giving him the opportunity to even change into gym clothes. Maybe I don't have the right attitude, but I think I would find it humiliating to have to do the evaluation in my underwear. Would it be appropriate to bring a set of gym clothes and ask the trainer to let me change into them after the weigh-in?
What does it take to become a personal trainer? I currently am working on dropping my weight and getting in better shape, and besides the goals of personal fitness and health, I want to set a big goal for myself of possibly becoming a personal trainer. I wanted to know if anyone has any advice on sources for helping learn the specifics of personal training. Thank you for your help!
name for Personal training? any ideas for personal training/group fitness business? Would like to have something that would refer to "exercise is medicine" theme. Thanks! R.M.
will I be laughed out of the personal training program? Okay a bit of history. Last year I was 100 pounds overweight. So far I have lost 50 pounds through diet, cardio and weights. During my time working with my personal trainer I have become very interested in health and fitness. I would like to take a two year program to become a personal trainer but worried that bc Im still 50 pounds overweight I wont be taken seriously at the school. I plan to obviously lose the rest of the weight and get more fit by the time I train. I go to the gym 5-6 times a week and eat clean so dont think losing it will be an issue. I was just wondering if its better to wait before starting the program until I lost all the weight or is it okay to start now and lose it over the 2 years of the program. Do the college programs make you do advanced plyometrics?
Fitness Clients? I am considering getting my certification and getting into Personal Fitness Training. I would like to know from anyone that started from scratch how hard or easy it actually is to get a client base? I am a member at Bally's and they have pretty much told me that I could start with them but they only pay based on the training sessions you conduct. The few trainers I have talked to have said it is not that easy to build up a roster of clients. I just want to know your honest experienced input and any advice. Thanks.
Starting a Personal Training Business - Need help on name? Hey guys I am starting a personal training business, my name is Miles so my parents suggested "Milestone Fitness" (miles and milestone as in reaching your milestone) I liked Goal Line Fitness, because I play hockey and I thought that it sounded like "reaching the goal line" What are your thoughts? Please be as detailed as possible if you can. Thanks!
What does it take to break into the Personal Training field? I do not have a background in physical fitness nor a degree in life sciences; however, I am passionate about exercise and nutrition and want to learn more and share my knowledge with others. How difficult would it be to get the credentials needed to become a professional trainer (if only part time at first) and get clients?
Where can I get the training I need to become a fitness/personal trainer? First let me say, I LOVE working out. I love my trainer! When I asked my trainer, where he got his bachelors degree, he said he didn't have one. This surprised me! But he is certified through the NSCA. He has taken alot of workshops over the last 20 years, which allows him to work successfully without a degree. He has taught me alot over the last 18 months. And I want to help others the way I've been helped. I would like to work as a fitness/personal trainer, while getting my bachelors degree in exercise science. Can anyone help me find a reputable vocational school that offers fitness/[personal trainer education? 1: What's the best vocational school for fitness/personal trainer in the US? 2: What is the better credential to have ACSM, NSCA, AFFA? What is the "gold" standard? 3: Any recommendations before I even plunk down any money on a short/long term program? 4: Is National Personal Trainer Institute a good school? Any suggestions or opinions would be very helpful.
If you had a personal trainer would you invite them for a bite to eat? If you had a personal fitness trainer that you trained with both at the fitness facility and at your home would you ever invite them for a bite to eat afterwards or something? Would you ever just talk to them about stuff? I ask this because I am thinking about getting a personal trainer and one i have in mind is a very nice guy and seems very nice like someone i could just talk to about anything.
Should I get my bachelors in exercise science or is certifications all I need for fitness? I see Bob Harper from the biggest loser just has certifications like personal training, nutrition and group fitness. Can I be real successful with only certifications or do I need to go as far to get my bachelors in exercise science? If I get the degree would I be paid more? and would it give me more employment oppurtunities? Seems like you study the same stuff in school as you would for the certifications.
Can I complete a personal training certificate in a month? I am looking to get personal trainer qualified. I have been working out for 8 years, so I am not completely ignorant to fitness. Is a month long enough to prepare for an certification exam? I am thinking of getting certified through ACE of NASM. Any suggestions on which is better?
Can I legally charge for personal training services if I do not yet have my license? I have several years of nutrition and fitness behind me and would like to offer this service to people for a small amount. I have done it once and provided a "do at your own risk" stating I am not responsible for any physical mental or emotional outcomes before during or after this advise. I know what I'm talking about in regards to what I'm offering but I do not want to get sued by someone who is money hungry. Is this waiver enough in the state of CA? Thank you!
