Fitness Coaching Training Knowledge Base
How much softball training goes to fitness? I joined, mainly for exercise but of course just for the fun and social aspect too. How much will be set aside for fitness? As much as football (soccer)? Our coach did huge amounts of fitness in football training; jog 2k, sprints, running with the ball etc.
Is 18 too old to begin football training? I'm 18 and ive started a coaching and fitness course at college and EVERYONE in my class is good at football. I've never really played for a team or done any training so im pretty bad.
Coaching Gymnastics Primary. How can I make it fun? Hi there. I am a secondary school student and I am currently coaching a group of primary school girls interested in competing in a gymnastics competition later on this year. There are about 30 or so girls ages 7-11. We coach of an afternoon for 2 hours which is purely gymnastics skills. We have one lunch time a week (so far) set aside for Fitness as a lot of our girls are, unfortunately, not very fit. I would also like to incorporate strength into the lunchtime classes. We have approximately 40 minutes for the lunchtime. There will only ever be 2 coaches at the fitness training a week, as the 6 we have is just too many. We start with some relay races, but then we usually have no idea what to do and end up letting them go early. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas that would help. I want to make it fun, but at the same time they need to be improving. We have not yet chosen teams but we will be doing that in a month or so. Another thing is that it gets very hard to control them, they get very excited which results in coaches yelling or having to bribe them all with lollies. Does anyone have any discipline ideas that aren't too harsh? Thanks for all your help!

Is anyone interested in an online fitness coach? Hi, I'm Stephanie and I'm an Independent Beachbody Coach. My coaching all started one night when I saw an infomercial for a fitness DVD on TV and I ordered it. I fell in love, and kept with my program- I started to feel so much better from the exercise that I changed my eating habits as well. I lost the 10 lbs that I'd been trying to lose for years. Anyways I started coaching to help others succeed with the at home DVDs that I used ( and still use). Email me if you'd like to join my team for FREE. Check out www.bbfitcoach.com for details. Getting in shape is NOT easy and there is no magic pill or fad diet that will do the work for you. Any diet that promises you to lose 10 lbs in 1 week is just depleting you of water weight and actually SLOWING down your metabolism making it that much harder for you to burn calories. Now if you’re a yo-yo dieter multiply that every time you start a new diet and you’re slowing down your metabolism EACH time. No wonder you can’t lose weight?! The secret to being fit is just good old-fashioned diet and exercise. It’s a lifestyle change that only you can make. You have to have the mind set that your body and health is worth it. You will feel so much happier, and healthier once you make this change. You’ll be a better wife, mom, sister, husband, friend, etc. So now that I filled you in on the big secret…. I will share some tips that I have learned in my own fitness quest. Small, frequent meals are the most effective way to lose weight, and maintain your blood glucose levels. If you’re following a 1200 cal/day diet try to eat 300 for breakfast, 300 for lunch, 300 for dinner, and 2 snacks in between with 150 each. You will find that you are never hungry, and never full. Because we all know that Big Mac tastes good going down it doesn’t feel so hot sitting in your belly for the next 6 hours. You have to count your calories- at least in the beginning until you have a good grasp on the nutrition levels and portion amounts that your body needs. There are lots of websites that can help you log your meals online to see all the nutrition totals. I like www.myfitnesspal.com This is a FREE site that allows you to plug in your height/weight/exercise level and will tell you how many calories you need to consume to achieve our goals. It’s personalized, it’s free, and it works. Now exercise will be different for everyone and I say do something you enjoy…that way you are more likely to stick with it. A good exercise program will combine cardio and strength training. Cardio will help you burn calories and torch body fat, while strength training will build muscle, which in turn boosts your metabolism and makes you LEAN. Girls do not be afraid of weights; they are your best friends. I’m a busy nurse and I work long days so I personally enjoy working out at home to save time and $$. My favorite DVD programs are Chalean extreme, Turbo Jam, P90X, and Slim in Six. Check out www.BBfitcoach.com for details. Make sure you make yourself accountable…. Tell your friends/family about it so they can support you. Take your body measurements and set reasonable goals to achieve. For some incentive to workout check out www.BBfitcoach.com and JOIN for FREE to login your workouts in a virtual gym called WOWY. Everyday in WOWY someone will win the daily prize which is either $300, $1000, TV’s, DVD players, cameras, and ipods. It’s legit and I know people that have won…myself not included YET. I hope this helps but if you have any questions shoot me an email. I’m a nurse by trade, but fitness junkie by hobby.

Is NESTA good for fitness certifications? I am thinking of studying with NESTA (national exercise and sports training assoication) they have certiciations for nutrition, wellness, life coaching and fitnes. Are they cerditable? I want to make sure people will want to hire me with these certifications.

Wii workout game: golds cardio, EA active, or my fitness coach? I just got a wii fit and have been using it to workout but am kinda sick of just the strength training and yoga. I want something that has more of a workout and cardio to lose some weight. I've narrowed it down to 3 that had good reviews: gold's gym cardio, EA sports active, and my fitness coach. Does anyone have these games and tell me which they prefer? Do you use the wii fit board with any? please help! :) Brian- I appreciate your input, yes I've tried all the games on wii fit, I'm looking for a more solid workout instead of just playing mini games. I think I may just go to blockbuster and rent each game then decide which I like the best.
Help with Soccer Training? I am a current manager of an all age soccer team, but am having difficulties getting the boys to train. They turn up late, eating kebabs and I get told you don't have to do fitness training to score goals (this from a striker who is never on-side and refuses to do anything but stand on half-way and wait for the ball and not chase if it doesn't land at his feet). My Fiance is coach and we are both ready to walk away. Nothing helps. Does anyone have any ideas? Please help!!!
I'd like to transition my career into health & fitness? What's the best way? I'm interested in going back to school for a different kind of career. I'm interested in the health and fitness field and/or a degree in Sports Medicine. I have a certification in personal training, but would like an official degree to confidently move into a specialized area of study. Any advice would be great! I could imagine myself working as a high school coach on the humble side or for a Sports team of some kind on the more extravagant side. Even physical therapy sounds interesting.
Wii Fitness Game: Suggestions? I had a gym membership which I did strength training and cardio but I quit the gym. I have a weight machine at home where I can do my strength training but nothing to do cardio such as a treadmill or bike. I have a Wii system and have the Wii Active game which is good but doesn't focus a great deal on cardio. I've looked through reviews of several fitness games and can't seem to find a decent one. Do you have any experience/suggestions for one? Golds Gym Cardio Workout? My Fitness Coach? Your Shape? The Biggest Loser? Jillian Michaels Ultimatum 2010? Etc.
Do you think overweight people would be interested? Do you think overweight people would be interested? Do you think that overweight, and obese people would be interested in a gym that caters to them only? There would be 10-15 equally equipped stations with weights, mats, exercise balls, machines etc. and there would be classes every 45 minutes. A class would be lead by a fitness coach who would show each exercise and would check on the members. Each class would be hybrid in nature, a mix of cardio and resistance training. It would be specifically put together for weight loss. The workout routine would change regularly to keep it fun and challanging.
Is the EA Active a good fitness game? I just got the Wii FIt about 3 weeks ago. I love it because it has a lot of games. I mostly do a little yoga, some strength training, a lot of aerobics and balance games. I also have Gold's Gym Cardio Workout and My Fitness Coach. I don't played My Fitness Coach in a while and I like the Cardio Workout because it does give you a good workout. I was also thinking about getting the EA Active since I heard so much about it from reviews. I'm overweight I don't want to go to the gym. What are you guys opinion about the game?

To all triathletes and those interested in triathlons? Does a gym specializing in the exercise and coaching of triathletes seem appealing to you? The gym would have all standard weight training equipment as well as specialized equipment like endless pools, computrainers (cycle simulators), Vasa Ergometers, etc. It would also offer triathlon coaching, nutritional guidance, training plan creation, etc. for extra. As far was we know there is nothing like this and we want your input. Would you use something like this for around the price of a standard 24 hour fitness membership? Any feedback would be great.
Do I have a chance to play proffesional tennis? I started playing 2 months before my fifteenth birthday. One month after my 15th birthday I started playing nationally. After only 2 tournaments my national ranking is 67. I get coached 4 times a week and I do fitness and strenth training at a gym. I play everyday against highschool players and twice a week against club players.
At 16, should I be squatting/Deadlifting during my training. I believed it stunts growth so I havent started..? Heres the deal. I have never really added squats into my programme because I fear that it'll stunt my growth. I am a fairly strong 16 year old, with a bench of around 150 lbs. I cant really comment on my deadlifts/squats because I dont do them. Should I add them into my programme? If so, when? How many sets and for what percentage of my maximum? Im going to get a fitness coach assess my form before I do anything to heavy. Thanks in advance. If it helps - this is my programme: http://www.gyminee.com/workout_programs/55-3-day-Split-Workout I am already skinny, at 9st10lbs and 5"7 with a BF% of 10%. Would this really add mass? Also, I only have a SMITH MACHINE at my local gym, can I squat/deadlift on that? If not, the next up is 25kg dumbells, but thats the highest my gym offers
What will Safina need to change to get back in form? Lately Safina has been playing poor. What do you think she needs to change to get back in form? This is what I think.. 1. Safina needs to get a new coach. Her current seems to never support her. When ever she looses a point he looks away or looks angry. This puts Safina's motivation down and makes her put more pressure on her self. 2. Get a mental coach. This is just as important for her as a training coach. Her mental aspect is very poor. With the help of the mental coach, she will gain her confidence and put less pressure on her self. 3. Work on her technique, especially the serve. With the new coach, she has to get a new form of serve. Every time Safina serves she puts her head down which in turn looses power. A new serve form should help her game. Also Safina needs to brush up on her groundstrokes, vollies and learn to construct the point. Way to many players on the WTA spend hours on the ground strokes, and 1/10 of that on the other ascpects. By being able to contruct the point Safina can win matches easier. Thats baisclly what men players do, construct the point. 4. If nessecary do more fitness training. This will help her put more power into her strokes, help her indurence, ect.
What kind of kinesiology should i take? I want to take kinesiology in college and they have a couple options...General kinesiology, adapted physical education, coaching and sport preformance, fitness and health promotion, and sports management. What i'd like to do eventually is help train professional sports teams (on and off season). Which would be best do you think?
Soccer Training Program? I've been searching the net and can't seem to find an independent training program for soccer (i can only find coaching help and stuff like that). All i care about is soccer(football) and will train for as long or as hard as it takes to become the greatest! I just turned 15 and last year was the first time i actually took my sport seriously. for the last year i have been training for the majority of it. i am just getting out of a slow patch and i am at a medium fitness level(above average). i have every afternoon free except Thursday. Saturday i actual play but Sunday i have the whole day off. i have a park with goals practically next door. This question is for someone who actually knows a thing or two about training. Any help would be very much appreciated. i will even give u money when i make it big :P
Am I Strong, And Should I Start Proper Weight Training.? I'm 14, I'm 5'11 I Weigh 66Kg (145 Pounds) I Don't Do Any Proper Weight Training, But I Play Rugby And I'm One Of If Not The Strongest In My Team, And We're No Mugs, Our Forwards Are Big And Strong, And Our Backs Are Big And Quick. I Do Lots Of Pressups At Home. At My School We Have A Fitness Suite And When We Were In There For P.E, After A Decent Warmup, I Could Benchpress 90kg (198 Pounds), And My Mates Could Only Do 60kg (132 Pounds), And On The Quadricep Extension Machine, I Could Lift 120Kg (264 Pounds), (I Think It's Because In Rugby You're Constantly Using Your Legs, Running, Tackling, Driving, Not To Mention All The Squats That Our Coaches Make Us Do, I Do Lots Of Squats At Home Aswell), My Mates Could Only Lift 80kg (176 Pounds). I Do A Lot Of Abdominal Work At Home Aswell, So As A Result I Have Abs, They Don't Really Contribute Anything In Terms Of Strength, But They're More Pleasing To The Eye Than A Beer Belly. My Mates Keep Telling Me How Strong I Am, But I Don't Think I'm All That Strong, Am I Strong For A 14 Year Old? I Want To Get Stronger Aswell, How Should I Go About This, Bearing In Mind I'm 14, Should I Just Continue With The Work I'm Doing At Home And At Rugby, Or Should I Start Weight Training At My Schools Fitness Suite During Lunch Time Instead Of Working Out At Home (And Continue With Rugby Obviously, I'm Never Gonna Give It Up), Bearing In Mind That I'm Only 14 (15 In December) Because I've Heard That It Can Effect Your Growth And Stuff. Ideally I'm Looking To Put On Weight In Muscle Mass.
How long before I see real results in the gym? Hi, Basically I have been going to the gym for over 2 months now. My first target was to loose weight and pretty quickly I managed to loose 10kgs (4 weeks). Now for roughly the past month my main goal has been muscle definition (fat loss), and if I am honest I see little progress after 2 months. MY pecs are firmer and my biceps look a little bigger but nothing major. I have been drinking 3 maxi-muscle promax shakes a day as well as eating protein foods (I have been trying my best to eat low carb and low fat foods). I also have been going to the gym 4/5 times a week. Is it normal for it to take this long or am I doing something wrong? If it helps I am doing pyramid training (recommended by my fitness coach), I am 88kg (roughly 194lb) and just under the 6 ft 2 mark, male and 16 years of age (don't be fooled by the age I am honestly stronger than more than half the men that go) I also seem to be more vascular on my forearms. Thanks!

Ray, you div: Hey thanks for your response the cardio training using wii fitness coach is basically like lunges, jumping jacks, jogging, cross country, dance moves, kicks, and basically aerobics so its a veriety of things and it swaps between it all making a different routine each time so you don't get bored of it and don't worry I will prove you wrong hehe ; ] I'm determine to do this as I have made too many excises in the past! dunga left ronaldinho on the bench this week,'cause he's not sure of dinho's fitness????? As he landed in Brazil after Wednesday's friendly game against Switzerland, which the South American team won 2-1, Dunga replied to a young boy who asked him why Ronaldinho had not played from the start. "Did you see the game? Did you like his performance in the second half? Do you think he is fit at this moment?" the coach asked back. NOW THIS IS RUDE!!!! "Ronaldinho's quality is unquestionable. That is why he is getting chances. But he is still coming out of a period of inactivity, without appropriate training," the coach explained. COME ON!!! NOW HOW CAN RONNIE LOSE WEIGHT IF HE IS PUT ON THE BENCH???!!! he lost three-kilos for God sake!!! let the magician play!!!! http://www.newkerala.com/news4.php?action=fullnews&id=52800 ~peace allz~ of course I'm talking about the right ronnie adi06! and I gave u a link to convince urself about it,lol! oh and why don't u read my next question to make sure I'm talking about the right RONNIE? geeze... marlene ur totally right!!! nice reply...thanks
I'm pregnant and need some exercise/fitness advice...only serious answers please!!? Hi..I'm 26, pregnant (almost 5 weeks) and what you could call a fitness guru. I go to the gym everyday. Before I was pregnant my workouts consisted of cardio (treadmill/elliptical) and light weight training. I also do situps on a yoga ball. I eat right and I'm in good shape and proud of it. Now that I am pregnant, however, I'm not quite sure what the do's and dont's of pregnancy fitness are..*L* I'm also a softball coach at a local high school - so what should I be careful of?? Considering I'm almost 5 weeks I still feel as though I can be active with the team, but not sure of what I shouldn't do. Luckily the only symptom I'm having is fatigue. So I'm still out there hitting grounders and pop-ups at practice only because I'm already so active at the gym and feel fine besides getting tired a lot faster. So, I'm basically asking any woman (or man) that might be a trainer or has been in the past that has experience with being pregnant *S*, what are the do's and dont's of fitness in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters? (though mainly the 1st trimiester when I'm not showing)
Field Hockey coach is a b****! What do I do?? Last year I played field hockey as a goalie, and I really enjoyed it. This year, the old coach quit, and was replaced by a new coach, one who happens to be a b****. The season started a couple weeks ago, but I missed the start due to a hospitalization. She doesnt know about the hospitalization, but she already told me I couldnt join the team because I would miss two practices a week due to my IOP therapy. My mom ended up pulling me out of therapy for other reasons. She said I could join the team after I get my physical approved by the school Dr. And, I had to make up all the fitness training I missed, which means I have to come to EVERY practice an hour early, meaning I have to be at the field at 8 every morning. And before school starts, all we have are practices and scrimmages, but mostly scrimmages. And I cannot participate in any scrimmages until I attend 6 practices and complete my fitness training. And I cant just be goalie, I have tryout, even though I was the only goalie. I really want to play and enjoy this season, but this lady is unfair, overworks us, and is not understanding. What should I do?
Is it cricket training ground or mine field? The training camp for the Pakistan cricket team here, is proving to be tough on the players, as many of them have suffered injuries. In a bid to improve the fielding skills of players, coach Waqar Younis is making the team undergo a tough training schedule, which has resulted in injuries to many players. Captain Shahid Afridi has suffered an injury to his fingers and fast bowler Umar Gul, who has been struggling with form and fitness in the recent past, is also nursing an injury. All rounders Fawad Alam and Yasir Aarafat are also on the injury list,
Maybe find a swimming coach and/or person trainer? I am currently swimming just for fitness, and so far I enjoy this sport a lot. I would like to get better at swimming, not for the sake of competing, but to learn more techniques to improve my free style (only style that i swim). I also would like to incorporate weighting training as my dry land workout to improve my swimming. This all seems like I want to compete, but I don't want too. Should I hire a person trainer who specialize in swimming, or even a swim coach?
Need help in coaching a client in martial arts.? I'm a personal trainer/martial arts instructor by trade and today i received a new client. She was interested solely in getting fit, improving her basic overall fitness level so she felt better about herself. We exchanged details and i invited her to come to my training centre next to my house. She came along and soon discovered that not only was it a gym, it was also a kickboxing training area, she wanted asked "do you do karate too?", "no, it's kickboxing and Taekwon-do i said" and she decided she wanted to learn, and asked if i could incorporate it into the routine. I said yes and off we set. Problem is, when she was 14 she fell off her bike and damaged her back. So bad that when we stretch she almost collapsed in pain. As martial artists i am sure you can appreciate how vital stretching the muscles is before an intense session but almost every stretch i tried caused her pain... Have you any recommendations to help me stretch her properly without causing as much pain? Details: Age - 19 Pain - Lower back around the spine. Stretches - Dynamic, Static and Passive stretches all hurt. Thanks a bunch guys I went through a thorough and precise PAR Q and contacted her GP before starting the programme. Though she told me about the injury my friend (a physio therapist) and he says that she already had therapy and should be clear for exercise. I gave her a sports massage around the back and that seemed to provide short term relief. I have sent her to the doctor again. Though she has already been to him numerous times.
Need some feed back about Personal Training? Hello to everyone! Ok.. so here goes. I am a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach/ Massage Therapist. I've worked at health club for about 5 of the 6 years. This passed year i decided to venture out on my own, so i go to clients' homes/ clubhouse gyms/parks/track etc.. As well, i offer nutrition counseling/coaching which includes grocery shopping tours, meal plans, education on why and what to eat (specific to the client). So far i've been doing well with business but i wanted to get some honest feedback from the public.. What would your "perfect personal trainer" offer you to make fitness fun and help you to achieve your fitness goals? What other services can i offer to make myself more valuable? Please any ideas are welcomed.

How do I convert from walking 60miles to 13.1? I'm currently training for a 60 mile Breast Cancer walk (I'd love if anyone wants to donate... Just email me and I'll send you the link). The walk is 10/12- 10/15 and I'm really looking forward to it. I've been training for it and I think I'm ready. So no worries there... I want to do a half-marathon in January (1/12) - and that's my concern. How do I transition training? I'm new at exercise, I'm overweight (and losing - over 25 pounds so far) and I get easily lost while trying to navigate the "fitness world". I easily do over 30 miles a week - as many as 18 at one time and 44 total in a week. I've looked on line for a training program for the half- but they all start at 3 miles or lower. I'm afraid that starting that low that I'll lose everything I've worked for so far. I'd just pick it up in the middle - but then do I just repeat weeks over and over? Is this something I need a coach for? If so - how do I find one?
What are the main things that qualify me to join a swimming team? I want to join my high school swim team, so I'm planning train before the season starts. I want to know how physically fit I need to train my body to be to be a decent swimmer. I already know most of the strokes, although the coach has offered to teach me a couple of things, but I'd be very embarrassed if my fitness is terribly pathetic as I try and learn. So yeah? A bit of help please? Thanks.

What are the best Cornel West books to read? I am not a reader, but I saw him on Tavis Smiley last night...? I was watching Tavis Smiley last night and Cornel West was on speaking about his new book coming out which I'm actually not very interested in, however I still read it. But he hit on a couple of things in his life which helped him become the person he is today. I see that he has written a couple of books and I just want to get some good ones. P.S. The one thing that touched me was when he spoke about the virtues brought about by participating in sport. I would like to try to transfer some of what he says about excellence, love and respect over to some of the people I train and coach in the fitness and wellness field.
Can anyone help with flexibility? As i am a figure skater it is really useful for me to be flexible. As my coach and other people have said that not many people that are skaters are flexible. People say i'm already really flexible but i don't feel it. I can just about do forward splits but i can no where near do box splits (side splits) - i have been skating for about a year now. I'm asking for help as i really want to be more flexible - I used to be able to do box splits when i was little but am no longer able to. I need a routine or something that is flexible as i am going into year 13 at school soon, i skate 3 times a week and i have fitness training once a week so i don't have a lot of time on my hands. Keeper-specific indoor training? I run and lift during the winter months for soccer, but I'm trying to get an idea of what other goalkeepers do during the cold months...my coach has me do everything the field players do, but since the two positions are quite different, I was wondering what else I should be focusing on... So...what types of workouts should keepers do indoors? Things like: Sprints (types of, frequency) Footwork/Agility (like the ladder and dots drills) Long distances Core workouts (with or without the ab decline bench) Lifting Basically anything you can think of... I don't have a turf field or any indoor soccer surface to work on during the winter (I do have a hard-wood gym floor though-not too fun to dive on though), but I'm really looking to focus on agility, footwork and overall fitness rather than technique and the such. Thanks in advance for any answers... My coach does have me work on some keeper stuff in addition to the normal off-season workout that the field players do, but I wanted to know what things I could do to get better on my own time, or possibly suggest that we work on=]
Besides WLS, are there other proven solutions to obesity? (Need citing references and no "just diet" answers) For severe obesity, weight-loss surgery cannot be the only solution! Are there any other options? Are there any coaches out there who can help with weightloss, fitness, nutrition, re-training the family, re-training attitude and beliefs about food, etc.? Added after the 1st two answers were pretty useless: I too believe that it is about curbing the diet and excersing. I also believe that the body can get addicted to food. That is why I call it a disorder. Once again, can someone provide PROVEN ways that has helped someone conquer this disorder by re-training the mind & habits, fitness, etc.? As in the original question, PLEASE do not provide a "just diet" answer, and PLEASE provide citing references. Thank you so much!!!
what is a soccer beep test?!? haha what is it first off..my soccer coach has us training in our off season with a fitness schedule running 3 miles everyday...will this help for the beep test lol thanks(:
What should I do? Tennis or college? For the past two years, I have been training to become a world class tennis player. I left my high school and became home schooled so I could train in another state. I train every day for at least 4 hours plus fitness and gym work. I play USTA tournaments and just recently started winning them, but I feel i could do better. My ranking is much lower than it should be because I did not start playing tournaments when I was younger. I love doing this, but the future seems as if i would not be able to train as much as i would like. I have considered going back to my old school and state, but the training and coaching would not be nearly as good. If I do go back to my old school, I would not play tennis as seriously and graduate and not play college tennis and just have fun in college. If I continue to train, I would want to go pro and not go to college. For my future, I think that going to college would be the better decision, but I am a perfectionist and it is killing me that I have to give up on my dream. It would be extremely hard for me to be around tennis and know that I had to give up one it. Which should I choose?

Should I change my career? I have graduated college with a degree in engineering, and got a good job in the field, the only problem is I find the field very boring. My real passion lies in guitar playing, sports and fitness. I would love to pursue these fields as my career, such as giving guitar lessons, personal training sessions, sports coaching ect. I dont mind making less money I'm just wondering if it is completely foolish. any opinions?
can someone please proofread this for me? Sport and recreation career assignment Athletic trainers assess sports injuries, providing appropriate treatment, and educating athletes on injury-prevention programs as well as healthy lifestyles. Trainers help with rehabilitation after an injury. An athletic trainer works with school sports teams, professional sports, or in sports medicine clinics or health clubs. Trainers work in collaboration with physicians and coaches, insuring that treatment plans are followed and athletes are not returned to the game prematurely. Trainers can work full-time year round or on a seasonal basis which varies with each sport. Students should study biology, chemistry, and physics as well as basic first-aid. Some coaching or experience as a team captain is preferable. Bachelor’s and master’s degrees are available in athletic training. An authorized program includes courses such as human anatomy and physiology, psychology, nutrition, and physical education plus extensive field experience. Athletic trainers also need good social and communication skills because they are constantly working with people. Athletic Trainer salaries vary depending on the location and the setting. The average salary is $18.44 per hour, which totals up to about $38,360 per year, comparing to a personal trainer, fitness trainer or aerobic instructor they make a good amount of money. Of coarse though, like every job the salary usually starts smaller and when the amount of hours and experience is increased so does the salary range. Along with this job there are many advantages and disadvantages. Being a personal trainer has its benefits, like you get a free membership to any gym you work at, and meet great people. Teaching a class is also a good workout for yourself. Some cons are it is extremely tiring, physically demanding and is lots of competition out there. You have lots of laundry all the time (being sweaty does that). There are a number of ways for athletic trainers to advance or move into related positions. Some assistant athletic trainers could become head athletic trainers and, eventually become athletic directors. Some athletic trainers may even move into sales and marketing positions, in this field they are able to use their athletic trainer expertise to sell medical and athletic equipment. The appropriateness of this field for myself is not a type of field I would be looking into for when considering what to do with my life. Being an athletic trainer would be a lot of work and would mean I would need to be extremely well fit. I am fit but teaching other people how to be fit and helping them out, is something that I simply not interested in pursuing. I would also need a lot of schooling because you need to know about muscles and first aid. thanks

I need help with making a decision? I need to improve my muscle and fitness levels this year for my rowing. I am currently the worst in my age group. My technique isn't too bad, i just need to improve my fitness and muscle. I currently train with a rowing coach twice during the week. I can't go down more often than that since the coach isn't there. My mate asked me the other day if i wanted to go with him to the gym. Would going to the gym twice during the week and training twice as well during the week be too much or just what i need? I suppose i should have said that rowing is more leg muscle orientated than your arms
Preventing throwing up while running? This summer I'll be training in hopes of making varsity soccer as a freshman. Tomorrow is my first day and I'm very nervous because the coach makes us run/sprint for long periods of time to help improve our conditioning. One of my biggest fears is throwing up during this because although I'm not in horrible physical condition, it's definitely not the fitness level I want to be at or need to be at to make the team. Any ideas on how to prevent throwing up or anything that helps getting through hard running?

What career path should I INVEST myself into? Career experts, aviators, psychiatric technicians, fitness trainers, Teachers/Coaches and anyone else with first hand knowledge in these respective areas, this is for you. I am 29. I have a 10 month old baby girl. I recently passed the GED test with my scores in the top 86%-99% rank, meaning in the top 1%-14% in each of the subjects given. I spent 10 years as a critically successful artist. However, due to the financial aspect(I refuse to go commercial and I have a family to feed), and the fact that I'm burned out, I would like to take full advantage of my recent layoff from my "day job", and find a new passion/career and excel in it, both for myself and my family. After an entire year of 'deliberation' with myself and my wife, I have formulated a plan to obtain a vocational certificate while I am unemployed, and then to get a better job than what I had before, so that I can realistically pursue my degree. However, I have had a great deal of stress stemming from my background, which is where you guys come in: - Ages 15-18, I had spent some time in two private psychiatric facilities on four different occasions for depression/suicidal thoughts. Two of those were for documented 'attempts'. I was just crying for help and going about it the wrong way. .Obviously, I dropped out of high school. I now have a GED. .I have a misdemeanor "hit and run (property damage)" on my record(2004). -4 years probation for this incident, 3 years for the hit and run, and 1 year for driving without insurance. -I spent a night in the holding cell (2004). -4 days in county jail as a result of a "failure to appear" stemming from that same case (2006). *Apparently, if this charge isn't already, I can have it exphunged. .The car that I had was repo'd due to the fact that it wasn't insured on the night of the accident. -that has account has been settled and taken care of, monetarily anyway. I ran myself into $3,000 in credit card debt with business that I started in 2006 and incorporated in 2007. One of the reasons why I am burned out. I know that this is a train wreck, but I need another shot. Question is who'll grant me that opporitunity? The choice in certificate will also effect what degree that I major in.Here are the vocational fields that I am considering: .Aviation certificate- civilian or military(Pursue an Aviation, Science, or Psychology degree after) .Psychiatric Technician certificate (Psychology) .Fitness/Athletic Trainer certificate (Kinsieology, Psych, definately a teaching credential) .Health Care certificate- Psych(as mentioned), EKG Tech, Dental Asst, etc. I also like LAW, and I think that I would be good at it. I've researched ALL of these to DEATH. I can repeat the cert guidline info backwards and forwards, I do have an interest in ALL of them with the execption of Health Care other than Psychology. But, which is the more promising field? Who will hire me? I'm going to exphunge my record, but how far will that stretch on my record? I'm going to clean up my credit, but I need a better job, and how far will that stretch on my credit report? What should I do?
Career change: can you help?

I'm going to the local J.C. to enroll, so that I can talk to an advisor and/or a counsler, and I'm definately going to inquire about the health care field in general. Thinking about doing Muay Thai? I am thinking about doing some Muay Thai classes, the main reason I am wanting to take it up is for fitness and more importantly self defense, I am told it is the most hardcore fighting style of all and most applicable to a street fight situation. What I am worried about is stories my uncle has told me about Muay Thai fighters having problems later in life with their shins and other body parts such as elbows etc because the of the intense training and knocks they take to them, he also said Muay Thai fighters die at an early age because of the kicks they take to their sides (guts) and when you take Muay Thai classes you do full contact sparring which I must say I am not keen on. Is it a good Martial art for me to take, I do not want to fight professionally I just want to use it for self defense. P.S my uncle is a boxing coach so I am guessing he knows his stuff.

Cheerleading/Gymnastics help? I've been a cheerleader for a year now and I love it :) But, I am SO frustrated with the tumbling aspect of it :( I am good at cheering and dancing etc but I am awful at tumbling. Once every two weeks a tumbling coach comes in to train the squad and help us and it's really embarassing because I am the worst at tumbling out of the whole squad :( I can do: - a forward roll (I can't stand up at the end though, I think it's because I have bad balance) - a backwards roll (I can't stand up at the end of this either) - a dive roll (I'm not very good though) Other people on the squad can do cartwheels, handstands, backflips, handsprings and loads of other stuff. I get really upset after every tumbling session because everyone else has improved so much and I haven't improved at all since I first started cheerleading. Also, I'm really unflexible and even though I do a lot of stretching my flexibility also hasn't improved (I can't even touch my toes...I can only just reach my ankles and that is only after I have warmed up for a long time and stretched my muscles out a lot). This is really upsetting me and I know that I definitely don't want to quit cheerleading becuase I love it so much but I need to find a way to improve my flexibility and tumbling. Any advice?? Does anyone know of any gymnastics/cheerleading/tumbling/flexibility fitness plans or conditioning programmes that could help me??? Anyone who has been in the same situation as me?? Please help...thank you xxxxxx

I'm going to clean up my credit, but I need a better job, and how far will that stretch on my credit report? What should I do? BUNNY D and MR. ED, I'll simplify this for you guys: . I stated that I am going to get a vocational certification FIRST, so that I can get a better job to better support my family while I earn a degree which will be more long term unless I enter an accelerated program. . My EDD insurance is doing just fine for now. My family is fed and happy, and the bills are up to date. . My "dreams" are a long term goal, while I work. Mr Ed, Sure, I'll sell myself and my family short and go work construction, because that's all I deserve, right? Bunny D., I hope the summary will assist you with your reading comprehension deficiency, or did you skim it and just decide to put me in my place? Sometimes people have to live life, and make mistakes before they learn, not all paths are identical.

Right age to start playing serious tennis ......? My daughter will complete 10 years in june, she is obsessed with tennis and has been learning for past a year or so in an academy. She practices for an hour or so in a group of 5-6 kids and 3 times a week she gets personal coaching, that too for an hour. Now my problem is that we are based in India and here craze for tennis is not much so I am completely clueless as to what i should do to help her so that she can become a professional tennis player. My main problem areas are like, 1- Her diet(content and quantity), 2- For how many hours she should practice, 3-Fitness and exercises 4-At what age I should take her to US,Australia or to Europe for better training? Here I would like to mention that she loves to play and dreams of becoming a big star, there is nothing in my family which is forcing her as few people might think so. Thanks
Tips for training for track? I'm a short distance sprinter...my events are the 100, 200, and 4x1. Once in a while I'll run the 400. I've talked to my coach and she wants me doing hard circuits 2-3 times a week, which I've been trying to do, but I've only been doing them about once a week. I'm in a cardio program which I do after school in the fitness room...the track is just outside and I have been going out most days for some sprints (I'm pretty out of shape...just getting myself back into it). Anyway, I can't get out there everyday and we just had a huge snowstorm that iced over the track, so do you have any suggestions for exercises I could do inside to develop the correct muscles further, improve my form, and increase my maxVO2? I have access to a huge number of weight machines, as well as cardio machines, so there aren't many limits! Thanks so much!
hey guyz can you help me out with this? Compare and contrast the points of view in the article. How does this article relate to fitness? As a professional strength coach I sometimes get asked some pretty strange questions on training. It’s become pretty clear to me that the general public is misinformed on a lot of issues that relate to muscle building and training for muscle growth. Whether this poor information gets passed on through bodybuilding magazines, friends, or supplement companies is anyone’s guess. All I know is that these myths about training for muscle gain are harmful to your progress. I am going to dispel some of the more common myths here. If you currently believe in any of these myths then it’s time to change! Myth #1: More is better Whether it’s more protein, more creatine, or more workouts, it seems that people have a tendency to take a good thing and overuse it. This is a symptom of our culture of excess, which is especially present in the bodybuilding community where everyone wants to build as much muscle as possible. Unfortunately life doesn’t work like this. Just because eating 200 grams of protein a day gives you good results doesn’t mean that 500 grams will give you great results. In the case of protein, there is a definite limit to what your body can utilize to build more muscle. If you aren’t on steroids there is no way that you need 500 grams per day. I hear the same type of thing with creatine. Five grams of creatine everyday will give you good results, but increasing the dose to 15 or more grams per day won’t give you any additional benefit since there is a limit to how much creatine can be stored in your body. The same goes for your workout schedule. If you’re working out 3 days per week and getting good results, this doesn’t mean that 6 days per week will bring you twice the results. Keep in mind that muscle growth occurs while you are resting. For most people training 6 days per week will not allow for enough recovery time between sessions. This leads to a plateau in strength and muscle gains. Myth #2: Supplements are the answer No one ever comes right out and says they believe supplements are the answer, but based on the number of questions I get about which supplement to use I know this is the case for many people. The fact of the matter is that your training and nutrition programs are going to bring you 95% of your results. That’s a hard pill to swallow for a lot of people (pun intended). Properly executing a solid training and nutrition program will never be as easy or cool as taking the latest miracle supplement, but the results are always better. If building muscle were really as easy finding the right supplements don’t you think everyone would be huge and muscular already? Listen, if 95% of your results come from your training and nutrition program, don’t you think you should invest some money in a good one? Here’s an idea, give up your supplements for a month and spend that money on a professional training and nutrition program. This investment will give you a much better return on your money than any supplement, but it will never be as cool or sexy. Myth #3: Your genetics are to blame I get this all the time from the skinny guys. They tell me that it’s impossible for them to gain weight no matter what they do. They tell me how they eat thousands of calories and train hard, yet they don’t gain an ounce. They may as well resign themselves to being skinny because they don’t have the genetics to build muscle. This is not true! Sure, some people are more genetically gifted in the muscle building area than others, but we all still have the same basic physiology. When I look at these guys’ training and nutrition programs I can usually spot at least 10 huge mistakes that are holding back their gains. They think it’s genetics, but really it’s the actions they are taking. These guys need to stop using genetics as an excuse. What they need is an objective observer to put together a training and nutrition program that is suited specifically to their needs. As one of my trainees once told me, “The better I eat and harder I train, the better my genetics get.” I just need the answers to the two questions I asked in the beginning. THanks
How can I stop the cramping in my calves?? I play National Level tennis, so obviously, when I train, a lot of running and jumping is required for the fitness and agility activities. What I find, is that even after stretching, my calves cramp up REALLLY tightly when I jump or run for long distances. I'm only 13 so I thought it might have somehting to do with growing, but then I found out that it was muscle cramping. I need to get rid of them or else my coaches are gonna cut me out of some drills and send me to a physio instead which will ToTALLY wreck my fitness compared to the other kids in my level. Are there any good tips??? I have pretty biggish calves from running so much and apparently my achilles tendons are too tight.
chicken or sports? i m fanatic about sport. i play a lot of basketball and train/workout each day. i wanna diet properly but fuck i cant stay off those southern fried chickens, they are holding me back. they are so unhealthy and drop my fitness but i jus cant stop. They are the next best thing after sex. man, talking about this i know i am at TJ's tonight to smother on some big moma dluxe chicken specials. someones gotta help me my coach is gonna kill me!!!!
Is there a swim coach I can get for free in Lafayette, IN? I want to train for the Paralympics in 2012 if the Time Trails are in Indianapolis, IN. I’m in Special Olympics Swimming. I manly swim for fitness and computation. I also am in (Untied States) Masters Swimming. I can go to more meets then in Special Olympics. I have tried out for the 1996 and 2000 Paralympics in Swimming. Only the best get to go, like the Olympics. I would like to try out again. I don’t want to spend the money to be on a swim team again. It was fun when I was little. I stopped when I was 20. I was swimming with all the 8 year olds. I just though I might ask. If you have anything at all that can help me, email me also. How to ease reaaaallly sore muscles? Last Monday (it is now Wednesday) I had an intenstive fitness program at Gymnastics.. it was seriously crazy!! 3 1/2 hrs of 100% exercise.. anyway I am still reeling from the pain! When i lie down its painfuil to get up, I can't hold too much weight on my arms and I have to hunch over - I have regular training on Friday and a COMP on Saturday! If I dont do well on this comp I dont make it to the Gymnastics WORLDS Qualifiers :( My coach is a ... bit- Nasty Person! and told me to toughen up and get fitter.. DOES NEYBODY NO WHAT I CAN DO? It wasnt the first time i exercised! ive been doing gymnastics since i was 10 years old - it was just SERIOUSLY intensive fitness... like .. you wouldnt believe it.
Germany have a new coach!? And it's not Klinsmann.... which is a shame, since he was brilliant. But they have a new one, in time for euro 2008 training and qualfier matches (early i know.). Juergen Klinsmann, who led Germany to a surprise third-place finish in the World Cup and won over the hearts of the nation, confirmed he is stepping down and assistant Joachim Low would take his place. 'I want to thank everyone, especially the fans, who pushed us along to this fantastic success,' the 41-year-old Klinsmann told a news conference in Frankfurt as he fought back tears. 'It was the most beautiful World Cup ever. We've created a new image of the Germans around the world.' Klinsmann came under fierce criticism prior to the World Cup, notably for his decisions to commute from his adopted home in California and bring in an American fitness trainer whose modern methods were ridiculed by German soccer traditionalists. But he silenced the doubters by steering Germany to the semi-finals. Since he has stated that he is taking a break to be with his family (very noble of him). Do you think he will return in 2 years? for the world cup?? 2010?
