Recumbent Exercise Bicycles

I want to build a DIY recumbent trike. Am I being realistic? I've found several sites offering plans for around $20 to build a recumbent bike or trike. These projects supposedly rely entirely on off-the-shelf parts and common tools, except for the need to bend and braze frame parts. I'm not a fantastically mechanically inclined person. Am I setting the bar too high with this project? Are the plans any good? Anyone have experience with this type of project?

Any recumbent trike owners out there.(home built,or not)? If any homemade where did you get parts. Like front wheels, hubs,brake system, design plans,and cost of parts, or whole thing. I want to build one myself, but can't afford two grand, I know about ihpva. Thanks for all answers..

recumbent trike plans? hello. i'm interested in either building or buying a recumbent trike. does anyone know where i can get free plans and instructions? looks like most places charge. think it would be cheaper to flat out and buy one for 300 than build one?
