Recumbent Exercise Bicycles

Which is better on the knees, a recumbent bike or stepper?

I have had a knee problem for more than 30 years from a car accident. . Which would be easier on my joints and help me lose weight, a recumbent bike to one of those steppers?

  1. I think a Stepper would give you less problem because no matter what bike it is, your legs & knees are still moving.
  2. deffinatly the bike because every step you would take would put pressure on your knees.
  3. Recumbent bikes are better for your knees. I find steppers are too high of an impact for my bad knee; I get on the stepper machine and a few minutes later I am almost crying from the knee pain. I find, however, that rowing, biking, and even light running do not cause pain in my knee. I suggest you go to a good fitness equipment store and try the machines before you purchase one. This will allow you to know how your knee will react to the repetitive movement.
  4. A bike since you wont have the stress added as you would with a stepper. Once you lose the weight then you can do other things as hiking and things so you dont have all the weight on the knees. Good luck!
  5. the bike- not only is it working out your legs, but also other parts of your body. the stepper would put a lot of impact on your knees causing the unneccessary, stenous pain.
