Recumbent Exercise Bicycles

How effective are exercise bikes?

I'm toying with the idea of buying myself an exercise bike. My sister has one, says she burns about 1,000 calories a day. I'm leaning more towards a recumbent bike, preferably the ProForm SR30. I'm figuring a session in the morning, then one after work, plus a bunch of different crunch methods to top things off. Of course, my real problem will be to stay motivated, which is always the hardest part for me.

  1. Exercise bikes are definitly effective, however, not as effective as walking on a treadmill. The bike will help with your cardio fitness, and you can read or watch T.V. while you are exercising, which makes the time pass faster. Staying motivated is always the hardest part. If you can join the Y.M.C.A. or a good fitness gym, It mmght help you to stay motivated. You get a lot of feed-back from others, who are experiencing the same problems you are faceing.
  2. They're very effective for the two or three weeks that people actually use them. Then they sit unused, day after day, in the den or rec-room, silently mocking you with their presence.
