I bought a recumbent exercise bike 2 weeks ago and am wondering how much this will help me. I have not had any form of exercise in a couple years and within the last year I have gained 20-25 lbs. I would like to work this off. For those who would like to know - I am 5'5" and 150 lbs. I know it will take time but I am willing to keep at it. I have worked my way up to 40 minutes on it a day. I am hoping to keep exercising 6-7 times a week. I have been using a program of either varying between 2 or 3 resistances. I have been trying for 10 miles on it and it says I am burning 450 calories in those 40 min. though I think that is a bit high. My question is, is my current pace enough to help me shed those extra pounds? How long will this take me? Or what should I be doing to help lose the weight better? I will be happy just to be able to build muscle which I hope will kick back my metabolism. I would like serious answers from people who know what they are talking about please. As for the 'dieting' I would say I am pretty average with what I eat. I know I cannot get into a diet right now so please not say thats the answer. I do however drink a lot of water and juice and hardly ever drink pop which should be helping me. I am eating a bit healthier than what I was a year ago. I am hoping that exercising will be enough to help me loose some weight. Then with time start watching more of how I eat.
