Recumbent Exercise Bicycles

Any health risks associated with recumbent exercise bikes?

I like the recumbent bike because it doesn't put pressure on my lower back. I'm thinking of exercizing on it 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Are there any health risks associated with the recumbent (such as overuse injuries)? Thanks.

  1. 30 minutes is about right. I don't think you can get overuse injuries from that other than feeling a bit sore for the first week (possibly). After the first week, there should be no pain and all gain!
  2. I live in an area where there is a high interest in actual long distance biking, so I know a bit about the subject. The only thing that is really worrisome is if you go overboard and use it to much. Such as 2hrs or more a day, 5 days a week. Make sure the seat is well padded/cushioned. If it isn't, get a pad in the bike section of a local retailer. Why all the fuss about it? Infertility. Years of biking (or over-biking) can put a lot of pressure on your testicles and can cause problems later in your life. Not trying to be scary though. Like I said, that's only if you go way overboard. Your routine sounds excellent though!
