What is the best time of day for jogging/biking for cardio fitness?

For a person who wakes in the morning, workes during the day and sleeps at night what time of day is most beneficial?

  1. Some people say (but it's not proven) that cardio in the early morning when you wake up makes you lose weight the quickest. I personally do mine after work as I'm not a morning person and I've managed to shed 20kg's of fat in the last 6 months.
  2. Early morning is the best time for me. It also gives you more energy to get you through the day. Good luck.
  3. I don't think it makes much difference (I do both), although it takes a lot longer for me to warm up in the morning.
  4. doesn't make much of a difference. Though in the morning you may be stiff and need lots of stretching, when in the afternoon you've been moving around a lot so you're kinda warmed up.
  5. I like to do mine at night so I can sleep better.
  6. It shouldn't be at night unless you really don't have time, cuz by night, body tends to relax & doesn't burn as much as in the morning. Naturally, preferrably, yes, it should be in the morning or by day. Additional important info., Same actually goes with food, that one shouldn't eat some big calorie meal by night. Note that in the 1st 20-30 minutes of workout, you won't burn, specially if you don't exercise regularly. But it certainly releases stress off your brain & body, boosts happy hormones really, & increases your metabolism. I greet you for your care to exercise :). [Not that you weren't exercising]
  7. Whenever you have time. As long as it's thirty minutes after eating, or two hours before sleeping. Remember to keep well hydrated. :)
  8. that is simple... the best time is when you can actually exercise. the benefit comes from the exercise you do. not the time you do it. although there may be different benefits to exercising at different times, its better to just work out when you can than not at all. if you give yourself a set time, you might find excuses to not exercise at all. example "oh, i wasn't able to work out this morning, i guess i will just do it tomorrow." i like to exercise in the morning. i am less likely to have the "i had a long day at work" excuse. plus, its out of the way and i don't have to think about it the rest of the day.
  9. I Think AnyTime In The Day Is Good For A Workout Of Any Kind!
  10. go at night
  11. The best time of day to exercise is the time that's most convenient, and that you'll stick to. Some people get a burst of energy after working out, so before bed is not a good time for them. Others get tired within a couple of hours, so after work is perfect. Studies have been done, and early morning is typically agreed to be the best time because the fuel used for the energy required to run is all stored calories, whereas after work your body is burning food that you’ve eaten throughout the day, but the bottom line is that you’re still burning calories. If you burn stored calories and then eat, your body will store a portion of those new calories. If you eat, then burn that food, then your body can’t store those calories, and you will burn stored calories to exist the rest of the day. The net difference is very small. The most important thing is that you exercise. If you’re not a morning person and you love to sleep late even if you go to bed early, then you will have a very hard time motivating yourself to get out of bed an hour or two before you really need to be up for work. If you are exhausted after work every day and look forward to nothing more than going home, sitting on the couch watching TV for 2 hours and then going to bed at 9:00, then you’ll find it too easy to excuse yourself from going after work. Go when you can go, and when you can make a commitment to yourself to keep going, and then keep that commitment that you made to yourself. Good luck to you!
  12. I would say close to after noon time after a good meal. :)
  13. early in the morning after waking up just throw on your sweats and take a quick jog since you most likely will be too tired when you get home that day
  14. in cheer we have 2 practices at 6 in the morning and 2 right after school... which ever you like more is probably the best but i reccommend switching between two times every time you work out
  15. Early in the morning (for a good start to the day) or late in the afternoon are the best times (for a good de-stresser after a long day). Avoid exercising in the hottest part of the day. Just make sure you have plenty of water before and after, and allow enough time to get some benefit from it, say, at least half an hour. Take a shower when you're done! I hope this helps.
  16. In the morning, before work is best. If outside, best to do it when it is a little colder. If you excersise at night, it can be hard to fall asleep becuase your body is so energized.
  17. 1st thing in the morning, otherwise the day will intrude and you won't get it done. Doing it is the most important consideration of all. Pam 4 years of morning work-outs and still going strong!
  18. mornings
  19. Best time is what works for you. That and when is the weather best? If you live in the West, winds blow with hurricane strength so much of the time. Winds are USUALLY low before sunup and after sunset. If you venture out during the day when the winds are blowing 60 - 70 and more mph, you won't get much benefit.
  20. I think night because it burns all those cals`
  21. Morning. It not only gets it out of the way when you do it in the morning, but it gives you MUCH more energy through out the day because you're body is physically happy, which makes you mentally happy as well as exercising relieves stress.
  22. I personally prefer to exercise later in the day(although sometimes I am forced to work out early in the day due to a swing shift work schedule). I think it all boils down to a matter of personal preference. Experiment with different times to find what works best for you. good luck
  23. Anytime that works for you. BUT and its a big but dont push till night becoze if you exercise then ur epinephrine (a hormone) levels will go up and you will suffer from insomnia that night. If you are exercising to loose weight, then morning is your best shot- dont exercise early morning when you havent had anything to eat- by exercising in the morning you will maintain a high BMR (basic metabolic rate) throughout the day this means that even when u're done working out your body will keep burning fat at a higher rate. If you (like me) needs to exercise early morning before going to work or school, I suggest drinking a little bit of juice and give it about 15 min then start your working. This way ur body has enough sugar to maintain heathly brain functioning and prevent fainting when you work out. Hope that helps
  24. Morning works out good for me. It starts out my day, warms me up, and I feel ready to work.
  25. it is better for you to exercise in the morning
  26. Daytime, preferably morning. Do not exercise at night because you will not receive any of the sun's energy. It is very important that you expose yourself to the sun, and in the morning, the sun's UV rays are less damaging than in the afternoon.
  27. It would probably be in the morning, because it will wake you up and get your blood flowing.
  28. undoubtedly the morning, maybe evening if not morning=freshness, not warm, no bugs, sun just coming up, relaxing, more exercise, cool breeze just perfect happy exercising
  29. Experts say that morning is the best time to excercise and to lose the most weight. I like to do my excercise in the morning becase it wakes me up for work and I stay fit.
  30. Frankly, for most patients the issue is not the time of day but simply getting enough exercise in the first place, so I emphasize finding the time that will work the best. Any exercise is better than none. A second factor might be your energy level at different times of day. If you are a “morning person”, you might do best at that time rather than later. Many people have job or family constraints. You might be able to get away for a brisk walk or a trip to the gym at lunch but not in the evening. There are other considerations. As the weather warms up, for example, a workout in the early morning or evening may be more practical than mid-day. Assuming you have the luxury of choosing your time and no time is much better than another, let me mention what I was able to find on the choice of times. There does not seem to be a clear answer but rather a range of opinions. One argument is that by exercising in the morning, you increase your metabolism during the day. Another is that your muscles warm up as the day goes on and that you can do more exercise in the afternoon or evening with less risk of injury.
  31. the best time i think is early morning......cause you feel fresh....
  32. I prefer the evening, as it allows me to blow off the frustrations of the day. Some folks swear by Am workouts, as they feel they get a boost all day long. the best reply is whatever works best for you. the most inportant aspect of any exercise program is the next day. You have to come back the next day to do it all again; if you don't, the entire program falls apart
  33. Since cardio activity gets the blood flowing and awakens the body, you shouldn't do any within a few hours before you go to bed or you will have trouble sleeping.
  34. i would say morning
  35. It sort of depends on a few things, the type of exercise involved in jogging or biking, whether or not you can eat on your breaks during work. The reason it's best to workout in the morning or afternoon as opposed to exercising in the evening is the post-exercise NUTRITION, all gains made from any exercise happen during the rest stage, muscle repair increases your strength and stamina, post-oxygen consumption promotes the use of glycogen during rest. Which burns fat and increases your stamina. If you do not eat after cardio exercise, your body will eventually resort to catabolism for energy. Basically that means you will lose some muscle instead of fat when what you want is all weight loss to be fat. Your body doesn't see "calories per day" like many people do, so if you exercise then can't eat at work and your body is short of carbs your body will adapt to the higher rmr (resting metabolic rate) by synthesizing the protiens from your muscles. So lets say you can exercise at 8 am but then you go to work and don't eat till 2 but you get off work at 4 and sleep at 10, it would then be better to exercise when you get off at four, because you not only will eat more after your workout (because you have been starving all day) but you'll burn off the glycogen stores from your meal at 2, and any fallowing meals won't add fat to your body because of the post-oxygen consumption of your workout. If you workout in the morning at 8 your post-oxygen consumption stage will be over by the time you eat at 2 and any carbs you eat will turn to glycogen then to fat. In Addition, what sort of intensity is it, the higher intensity the longer post-oxygen consumption is, HIIT routines for example are the most efficient form of cardio for fat loss if you can handle it that is, and the key behind it is to raise your heart rate high enough to set a lengthy period of post-oxygen consumption as lv would say to "excite the metabolism". If your working to improve your stamina or to lose fat you wouldn't want to sleep when your body is still trying to recovor from your workout, you would lose precious fat loss, or would lose time where your carbs are utilized for muscle repair and post-oxygen consumption and your stamina improvements would be delayed. So choose a time where you can eat a few small meals within 6 hours of it and won't go to sleep within 6 hours of it.
  36. the best time to do those jogging and biking for cardio fitness is early in the morning when the sun has not yet up
  37. Hi, I read a lot of muscle and fitness, and the answer is cardio in the morning works best. It burns fat the best since there's no food/glycogen stored already (since you slept). Drink a bit of coffee (no sugar) and go running. Come back and eat something with protein. Or workout then protein and breakfast. A good way to do cardio is HIIT training, which is High Intensity Interval Training, which burns fat quickly. By increasing your heart rate high for about a minute, slowing it down, then increasing it high again, it burns more calories/fat. But anyways, any form of cardio is good for you, it increases metabolism and just makes you healthier in general. Goodluck!
  38. If you want to maximize your weight loss, the morning is best. If you work out before you've eaten, you'll use more of your fat for energy, instead of burning glycogen stores first, then, when that runs ,start burning fat. (scientifically proven) But the trick that most people don't tell you is you have to keep your heart rate at a certain range (for fat loss). This should be around 70-75% of your max heart rate. (221 - X= max hear rate , X=your age). If you don't have a hear rate monitor (which you can pick a basic one up for $25), then do the talk test. If you're able to talk easily, then not enough. If you can't talk because you're breathing too hard, then too much. Somewhere in between, where you have to catch your breath every 2-3 words is perfect. Now as for mood uplifting, definitely worth doing in the morning. I don't know about you, but after a run in a morning my day goes by better. Easier. Relaxed. As if I wait until night to do so, my day is normal or uptight, depending on situations. Hope that helps.
  39. Dawn; before sunrise.
  40. It has been said in multiple fitness magazines that the first four to five hours AFTER you wake up is the best time for cardio workouts...this is because cardio workouts are most beneficial when maintained at high velocity for periods of time...Those first four to five hours after you wake up is when your body is the most rested, energetic, and ready to go.
  41. It should be either dawn or dusk as the suns rays are not harsh on our skin as at these times they have to travel through greater extent of atmosphere. It is important to excercise when they is some sunlight as it helps in production of vitamin D which are vital for bone health
  42. At the morning before you work or at the afternoon about 4;00-5:00PM because the sun is not too bright and the sun in the morning is healthy. You can definitely exercise on that time.
  43. When ever you choose to do it--do it at the same time every day and it will become "habit" which is good!! A good habit! It does become addicting because it makes you feel so good happy-exercising!!
  44. My personal experience is by evening time after off duty. When I biking on the road home, I feel light and gay, looking arround all the way, seeing what I shall take away with me as I always feel good appetite. I relax my neck, arms and leg as a day's work a little fatigue. This is actually many years of my experience. Biking is very good exercise besides making you move along and quite soon arrive home! by the way, I wish to tell you I keep fit for more than 50 years. My weight is now is just what I was at 21 age, my waist is the same as I was at 21, and my weight is the same as I was at 21. I have no highbloos, nor stuff up heart tube. Thank God, Biking give me fitness. I very seldom eat pork but fish on each table. No liquor also, but smoke a LOT!!!
  45. I work out at night after work. Granted, I set my alarm to go off EVERY morning so I can work out before work, but everyday I get up, turn it off & go back to bed! My new plan is to record a message of myself saying "Get out of bed, you lazy lady! Go work out!" with maybe a few profanities worked in there somewhere, because everynight I wish I had worked out in the morning! Also, like everyone else, its good that you are exercising in general, cuz its better to do it everyday no matter what time than not doing it at all! Good Luck to you & happy holidays!
  46. I believe in the morning and the evening
  47. holidays (lol) in the morning when you more likely to be awake
  48. I'd go for jogging in the morning and "light" jogging at the end of the day. This will help endurance and cardio. Just remember, stretch before and after exercising, it's all about breathe control, and always be hydrated.
  49. IN THE MORNING!!
